Zouk Club

Zouk is one of the oldest and most popular nightclubs in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.The club is named after the French Creole word for 'party'. It has won the Singapore Tourism Board's "Best Nightspot Experience" award 6 times, between 1996 to 2007. Zouk is also ranked number 10 on DJ Magazine's list of Top 100 clubs in the world in 2006, 2007, 2010 and number 9 in 2011.

The three old warehouses that make up the original Zouk were built in 1919 on the Singapore River. Thoroughly renovated, the houses now feature four interconnected clubs. Zouk, with a large dance floor and state-of-the-art sound and lighting, catering to a variety of artists - Velvet Underground, a quieter, more relaxed lounge that plays house and soul music - Phuture, a more avant-garde bar specializing in broken beats and hip-hop/RnB – Wine Bar, where people enjoy their drinks before entering to the main stage.

In 2004, Zouk opened a sister club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Zouk KL features four rooms: Zouk and Velvet Underground styled on the original, plus the Loft and Terrace bars.The clubs have proven popular with Singapore's party-going crowd and regularly attract performers, travelling from all over the world.

Its famous Mambo Jambo theme nights are considered a must-go for a beginning clubber. Mambo Jambo, is a theme clubbing night held every Wednesday at Zouk in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. It is highly popular among the younger segment of the clubbing crowd in Singapore, and a Mambo experience is often regarded as an initiation ritual for many beginners into the local clubbing scene.

ZoukOut is an annual music dance festival held in Singapore since 2000.One of Asia's biggest music dance festivals, it is organized by Zouk Singapore. DJs that have performed at ZoukOut include Paul Van Dyk, 2ManyDJS, Masters at Work, Gilles Peterson, Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath, Peter Kruder, James Lavelle, Armin Van Buuren and Stereo MCs.

After great efforts from Zouk’s people, the club has established a great name in the dance scene and many consider it as one of the best clubs around the world. Its success comes after not only the great terrace and sound system but after the real party times people experience in Zouk. What more to say but “well done and keep up the spirit Zouk”…

Cavo Paradiso

Mention Mykonos and clubbing in the same sentence and the first image that probably comes to mind is Cavo Paradiso. As the name suggests, it is an oasis of dance musical taste, just 15 minutes out of town of Mykonos. Built on the edge of a 150m foot cliff, which overlooks the golden sand of Paradise Beach and the clear, blue water of the Aegean, the open-air club is built entirely from naturally sourced materials to mimic the natural beauty of its surroundings. Having attracted everyone from old school heroes like Carl Cox and Sasha, to modern day masters like Sebastian Ingrosso and Loco Dice, it's also the place where David Morales spends his birthday every year.

The first years, Cavo existed as an afterhours party venue and first line-ups included the DEF MIX crew, Louie Vega and Kenny Dope plus many others from the US house scene. Word was spread over quickly within the dance music industry and Cavo was on its way, on becoming the club it is today. Ever since the dawn of the millennium, Cavo Paradiso is regarded by music industry publications, artists and clubbers, as one of the most impressive venues on the planet. There have been many great memorable moments from Cavo’s rich party history including a show with John Digweed in 2001, where he finished his set after 11 hours at the decks, at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Dance Clubs

Dance clubs have led the whole dance scene to a different level. Their growth and technical evolution has given a great push for clubbers and DJs to keep the spirit of dance music alive and kicking. They have come a long way, from playing just a jukebox for people to dance, to Djs with their own laptop, laser shows, smoke sprinklers and many more.

The entry on each club depends on many factors like the age, the dress code or the guestlist, which is used to make the status for a club more "exclusive". Being on the guestlist allows you to enter the club for free or at a reduced rate and often on different queues and entrances.  It is true that quite often, there are no clear policies governing entry to a nightclub, thereby allowing the doormen to deny entry to anybody at their discretion. The dress code is also important factor for a club. It ensures a certain type of clients for the club and the exact dress code differs from one club to another. The person you will surely find in all clubs is the “bouncer”. The man who controls the door and decides who gets in or who gets out, not politely sometimes…

The history of clubs goes way too back on 1970 with famous clubs such as Manhattan's "Studio 54", which was operated by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. Studio 54 was notorious for the hedonism that went on within. The balconies were known for sexual encounters, and drug use was rampant. Its dance floor was decorated with an image of the "Man in the Moon" that included an animated cocaine spoon. Other famous 1970s discothèques in New York City included Xenon, The Loft, the Paradise Garage, and Aux Puces.The emergence of the "superclub" created a global phenomenon, with Ministry of Sound (London), Cream (Liverpool) and Pacha (Ibiza).

A recent trend in club industry is the usage of video. Instead of audio-only, DJ's are now using video and "mixing" music videos and related songs together in an audio/visual presentation.
