Space Club

1989 was a year to remember as the date that Space Ibiza opened its doors. It was the only club in the world where one could dance in daylight, everybody wanted to get in, and even the best DJs of the time wished to be a part of it. It was the place to be!

Afterwards in 1999 Pepe Rosello, the founder and owner of Space, created together with Darren Hughes and Danny Whittle, the famous marathon 22 hour Sunday parties, starting at 8am on Sunday until 6 am of next Monday. There was a lot of different DJs that played diverse musical styles so people could go from one arena to the other and choose the place they liked best. Although it was a difficult bet to attract all these visitors for so much time in one club, these parties became the meeting point for Ibiza residents and a must attend for everybody else on the island.

In 2001, it was awarded Best Club in the World by the Dance Music Awards and in 2005 it was once more awarded as Best Club in the World, in Winter Music Conference and House Music Awards .Also in 2007, DJ MAG England did a vote among one thousand of the finest DJs of the moment and they select Space Ibiza as Globe’s Finest Club.

While the nitrogen blasts, confetti explosions and theatrical face-painted performers on stilts make Space one of the most carefully engineered, pyrotechnically advanced clubs ever to exist, it is the rare affability of its crowd that makes the club so exceptional. Shiny faces in every room, unrivalled warmth and a lack of pretension borne out of a sense of privilege, a mutual cognition that the experience is one to be savoured.

A hedonistic escape from everything negative, ugly or unpleasant in this world. Complete immersion in booming sound, nebulous apparitions and explosions of light to be treasured, remembered and anticipated until next time. Space Ibiza does exactly what every club should do - and more.

Amnesia Club

One of the best clubs on the world is located in Ibiza and it’s no other than the famous Amnesia. Having won the “World’s Best Club” award from this year’s DJMag contest, it is commonly considered as “the place to be” by clubbers from around the world. Amnesia has also been awarded for 3 consecutive years the prestigious Best Global Club award in the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

Being one of the oldest clubs on the island of Ibiza, Amnesia opened in the 1970s, and survived closures and memorable summers alike before it finally cemented its position as one of the island's premier clubs in the early 90s.

The club is located close to Ibiza Town and very close to Privilege, with which they are the island's most popular nightclubs. The club can easily have 5.000 people on the dance floors and was the first major outdoor club on the island. Like Privilege, it is famous for its sunrise dance floor.

Amnesia is home to the successful Manumission night since 2007. This unexpected mid-season change of venue from Amnesia's biggest rival, Privilege, took place over a dispute between Manumission's organizers and the club's owner.  The most successful club night ever in Ibiza is Cream, created and founded by Joseph Murphy in 1996. It was the most talked about club in Europe, and the hardest club to get into, with thousands of people travelling to Ibiza for this specific club and very often being turned away. Although it is still one of the longest-running UK nights on the island, Joseph Murphy sold the brand in 1998 to Cream UK. Cocoon is another popular night held in Amnesia, that attracts many clubbers.

One of the secrets to its success lies in the quality of its sound. Today the club has one of the most advanced sound systems and many DJs love to perform their gigs in Amnesia. It is a place where the true feeling of clubbing has never lost its place. Its all about music, dancing and having fun , after all…..

 Have a taste of clubber’s Paradise….

Cavo Paradiso

Mention Mykonos and clubbing in the same sentence and the first image that probably comes to mind is Cavo Paradiso. As the name suggests, it is an oasis of dance musical taste, just 15 minutes out of town of Mykonos. Built on the edge of a 150m foot cliff, which overlooks the golden sand of Paradise Beach and the clear, blue water of the Aegean, the open-air club is built entirely from naturally sourced materials to mimic the natural beauty of its surroundings. Having attracted everyone from old school heroes like Carl Cox and Sasha, to modern day masters like Sebastian Ingrosso and Loco Dice, it's also the place where David Morales spends his birthday every year.

Being one of the longest running clubs and gaining the reputation of possibly the most diverse and at the same time intense dance events, Cavo has gone a long way regarding its world reputation. Great results came along with its digital advertising campaigns that made Cavo Paradiso brand dominative throughout the whole world. The year 2011 marks the time when the club won its highest position to date by being number 10 Best Club in the world, voted by clubbers from all around the world, on DJ Mag’s competition. Cavo Paradiso justifies its high place by providing an unforgettable experience for the thousands upon thousands of international clubbers who flock the island of Mykonos every year.

The first years, Cavo existed as an afterhours party venue and first line-ups included the DEF MIX crew, Louie Vega and Kenny Dope plus many others from the US house scene. Word was spread over quickly within the dance music industry and Cavo was on its way, on becoming the club it is today. Ever since the dawn of the millennium, Cavo Paradiso is regarded by music industry publications, artists and clubbers, as one of the most impressive venues on the planet. There have been many great memorable moments from Cavo’s rich party history including a show with John Digweed in 2001, where he finished his set after 11 hours at the decks, at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Artists who have appeared over the years are Carl Cox,  Sasha, Deep Dish, David Guetta, Louie Vega, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Armin Van Buuren, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin, Joe Vannelli, Satoshi Tommie, John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Ricardo Villalobos, Tiësto, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Dave Clarke, Juniot Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Benny Benassi, Claudio Coccolutto, Dj Ralf, Alex Neri, Francois K, Sandy Rivera, Erick Morillo, Harry Romero, Hector Romero, Kenny Carpender, Timmy Regisford, Dennis Ferrer, Jerome Syndenham, Seb Fontaine, Pete Tong, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell, LTJ Bukem, Danny Rampling, CJ Mackintosh and many many others…

Dance Clubs

Dance clubs have led the whole dance scene to a different level. Their growth and technical evolution has given a great push for clubbers and DJs to keep the spirit of dance music alive and kicking. They have come a long way, from playing just a jukebox for people to dance, to Djs with their own laptop, laser shows, smoke sprinklers and many more.

The entry on each club depends on many factors like the age, the dress code or the guestlist, which is used to make the status for a club more "exclusive". Being on the guestlist allows you to enter the club for free or at a reduced rate and often on different queues and entrances.  It is true that quite often, there are no clear policies governing entry to a nightclub, thereby allowing the doormen to deny entry to anybody at their discretion. The dress code is also important factor for a club. It ensures a certain type of clients for the club and the exact dress code differs from one club to another. The person you will surely find in all clubs is the “bouncer”. The man who controls the door and decides who gets in or who gets out, not politely sometimes…

The history of clubs goes way too back on 1970 with famous clubs such as Manhattan's "Studio 54", which was operated by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. Studio 54 was notorious for the hedonism that went on within. The balconies were known for sexual encounters, and drug use was rampant. Its dance floor was decorated with an image of the "Man in the Moon" that included an animated cocaine spoon. Other famous 1970s discothèques in New York City included Xenon, The Loft, the Paradise Garage, and Aux Puces. The emergence of the "superclub" created a global phenomenon, with Ministry of Sound (London), Cream (Liverpool) and Pacha (Ibiza).

A recent trend in club industry is the usage of video. Instead of audio-only, DJ's are now using video and "mixing" music videos and related songs together in an audio/visual presentation.

Homelands

Homelands was a large dance festival taking place near Winchester, Hampshire. It was organized by “Live Nation UK”, the same people behind Home club in London and Sydney, and was considered one of the most popular British festivals. It was licensed for about 35000 people with big name DJs and live acts playing just about every genre of dance.

In the last few years it tried to be a little more diverse and broaden its appeal beyond the dance addicts and was renamed as from 2003 as “We Love Homelands”. There has also been a Scottish Homelands Festival that was held in Edinburgh with great success. “We Love Homelands” was also renamed as “HiFi Festival” and was last held in 2006.

Homelands was always considered as a giant Mecca, with many people travelling from all around the world to take part in an unforgettable 17-hour marathon of incredible live music and quality tunes that would soon become the soundtrack of the summer.

Overall, Homelands was definite been a big success, though perhaps it was trying too hard to be all things to all people. Homelands was a well-intentioned nod to the ever growing diversity of dance music and the musical open mindedness of its fans. The all night dance party is essentially, what Homelands should be all about. Nevertheless, there was always a cracking atmosphere throughout the night and enough quality music to take people through six in the morning each year…

Trance Energy

Trance Energy is a Dutch dance event featuring DJs from around the world. It`s been held since 1999 in the Netherlands and is organized by ID&T, the leading dance events company.

In 2011, ID&T changed the concept and renamed the festival to "Energy the network". The change was announced in September 2010, and labeled as a simple "name change". Yet after the line-up announcement, it was clear that Trance Energy was existing no more and Energy was going to be a completely new festival.

Audience in the first years was mostly Dutch but now it has many international visitors, mainly from the European Union and sometimes from other countries around the world. The festival earned worldwide fame thanks to bootlegs of DJ mixes and some official videos of former editions. At the 2010 edition, it has been said by ID&T that more than 40% of the audience was not Dutch. ID&T also stated that Trance Energy will be renamed to just Energy in 2011. After the publication of the line-up, it appears that the festival is no longer trance only but other genres are appearing.

Trance Energy contains three stages located in different halls. The "Mainstage", where headliners DJs do their sets with lasers, lights and fireworks. The "Madhouse" which features more house and club music. An alternate stage whose name changes each year where mostly trance is being played. Since 2007, a fourth stage has been added, the "Hard Stage" featuring harder derivatives of Trance Music. In 2009, students of the Utrecht School for the Arts were asked to design the entrance of the festival. Everyone grabbed his laptop and started to make his drawings. They finally  created a unique entrance, where interactivity, game-elements, video, fashion and music came together.

Trance Energy has become "the place to be" for DJs and Trance addicts and almost all big stars  including Armin van Buuren, Cosmic Gate, Paul van Dyk, Johan Gielen, John O'Callaghan, and Rank 1 are performing at the festival.Bootlegged DJ sets from Trance Energy are also very popular and a number of them are considered "classic" by the Trance community.
